Specifics still not posted (bonuses, first year vs last year salary, etc). The last year will determine his qualifier if I’m not mistaken

Not at all. Keeping such a huge blank slate continues to impress. I thought Hronek may break through and be longer than 3. Only 3 on the roster for 23/24

Good deal for both Hronek and Wings. A real pleasure to watch Stevie rebuild the team.

pdate - Salary Breakdown

2021-22: $2.7MM salary + $500K signing bonus
2022-23: $4.5MM salary
2023-24: $5.5MM salary

His qualifier will be at 5.5, not bad at all. Take a look at a lot of deals signed this summer. Low cash in the first year (not just on RFAs). Franchises trying to keep spending down this year while they recover from last 2 seasons of down revenue

This is truly the best signing of the summer for Detroit. It's one I've been waiting for since Hronek became a RFA. I really think this kid's future in Detroit is bright. It'll be great to watch him develop.

Pretty good deal for the Wings. I do think Seider will replace Hronek as the #1 RD pretty fast though.

Fear and panic are emotion driven. Primal. I suspect, considering the area of the country, that empirical evidence drives a lot of the decision making. Just throwing it out there.

I know I'm late to the game on this one... but did anyone hear any rumors as to why Stevie signed Carter Rowney for a one year deal ?? My guess is he will be in GR as a depth signing to cover for injuries. He's 32... so it's not like he is going to get better... plus he's coming back from season ending knee surgery.

Fair enough. But having lived there for more than a decade not long ago, messaging from the media trumps empirical evidence.

A pro sports organization, with millions on the line, is not flipping out and firing a coach because of the San Jose Mercury News or a report on KGO. Your basis is anecdotal and feeble.

I'm not as sure as everyone else is that this is a slam dunk for Detroit.

Hronek has some good tools but I continue to have serious doubts about his decision-making / hockey IQ. I'm not sure there was a worse #1 D in the NHL last year.

Playing extremely tough minutes on a very bad team is obviously a factor, but I don't think simply switching him to the second pair is going to automatically make him an above average NHL defenseman.

It's a backloaded deal that pays him $3.2m in the first year, which IMO is already on the high end of fair for the player he is today. The gamble is that he'll improve as his salary increases and be worth the $5.5 million he'd have to be qualified at three years from now.

I'm not necessarily saying that's a bad gamble to make under the circumstances, but I wouldn't put it anywhere close to a lock.

They’re flipping out because they’re in a state of fear and panic over COVID. Strict procedures are in place for the unvaccinated to participate but they wouldn’t accommodate an assistant coach to participate who had a legitimate medical reason to not vaccinate. It looks like they didn’t even offer him another job in the organization. Bad look from a douche organization. You said you suspect they are using empirical evidence . Suspect you can’t say that they are. Weak sauce. Beyond feeble.

So the organization is making emotion driven decisions because you don't believe the science? Gotcha.

That’s what you said. Not me. The organization and you are making emotional decisions based on pseudoscience from your messiah Fauci who has been wrong about everything. That’s what I said. Reading comprehension is hard.

They are making the decision based on political fear. Not fear for his safety, or fear of a virus with a 99.7% survival rate...it's fear of the media and political elites. Very few organizations are offering medical exemptions out of fear. People who are allergic to one or more of the ingredients in the vaccine should not get it. People who are immunocompromised or have autoimmune disorders should not get it. Pregnant women shouldn't get it. People who have tested positive in the past 90 days should not get it, and there are a variety of other health conditions the FDA has identified as having increased risk of complications or death if they get the vaccine. Many state governments do not have medical exemptions. Many cities and school districts don't. Few employers do. Since they have guaranteed immunity if they forced their employees to get the vaccine and it kills them, so they aren't worried about their employees dying, only negative publicity of having unvaccinated employees. They know they are guaranteed to lose Americans with Disability Lawsuits for firing people with medical conditions who can't get the vaccine, but they figure it's cheaper to settle with them, than to deal with the professional victims who will lose their minds if they find out an employer has an unvaccinated employee. Interestingly, the CDC, National Institute of Health and the White House do not mandate their employees get the vaccine. I wonder why.
